Abstract

Israelites are the traditions or narrations of Ahl-e-Kitab, mentioned in our tafaseers have been derived from the Jewish and Christians sources. The commentators (Mufassirin) of earlier time used to mention all kinds of such traditions in their commentaries regardless of their authenticity, hence the Israelites were considered a part of tafseer. As some companions of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) and some followers of the Sahaba Tabieen were either Jews or Christians before they embraced Islam, so after their confession, they used to explain the verses of the Holy Quran in light of their previous knowledge they had. This paved the path to Israelites versions to be narrated during the explanation of the Holy Quran. Among the commentators of the Holy Quran, some have critically evaluated and brought before the actual status of Israelites. The subject commentator, Allama Aalosi, being a renowned scholar has also discussed the Israelites in detail. His collection known as Tafseer Roohul maani is a master piece in the field of Tafseer, where he has touched and mentioned every sort of knowledge. In the article under reference, the viewpoint of Allama Aalosi regarding the Israelites has been provided in light of his tafseer Roohul Maani. The methodology adopted therein is inductive and descriptive. The definition of Israelites, the reason of its occurrence, the opinions of Islamic scholars and the examples of Israelites have been provided in this paper. Similarly, the viewpoint of Allama Aalosi has been mentioned in detail which shall be a favorable addition to the research.
