Monotheism, Prophethood and Interfaith Harmony in Abrahamic Faiths

Abstract

Inter-faith harmony and tolerance, at present are very important and need of the hour. However, keeping in view, some realities and established facts due to which creating an environment of harmony and tolerance is a difficult task but not an impossible one. Though there are dogmatic differences over the belief in Oneness of Allah and Prophethood in other faiths, however in Abrahamic religions-Judaism, Christianity and Islam- the common factor is the belief in Oneness of Allah. This belief makes the basis for tolerance in social and communal life through which fair justice and equality can be achieved in the society. More importantly, international community can be made united and an international political body can be established which can tackle the issue of law and order. Unfortunately, if this central theme is not available, tolerance and harmony can not be achieved. Similarly Islam has emphasized on the belief in Prophethood to the extent that one cannot enter Islam or remain a Muslim without it. The present paper provides information regarding these two beliefs in Abrahamic religions and their analysis from a Muslim perspective.
