Abstract

Pakistan and China have been close allies, and close partners since 1963; the dynamics of this partnership has been changed in the past decade keeping in view primary national interests for both the states. The purpose of this research was to analyze the Chinese influence on Pakistan and compare it with the British Colonization in the 18th century, as well as examine what kind of impact the Chinese influence has and will have in the future on Pakistan. Case study design has been used for this research study, primary and secondary data has been collected to analyze the Chinese influence on Pakistan. Semi structured interviews have been conducted from six International Relations subject experts, working in leading universities in Pakistan. It was concluded that although a direct comparison and exact parallels between the British invasion of the Indian Subcontinent in the 18th century cannot be made with the Chinese influence on Pakistan, the similarities cannot be overlooked. China has been maneuvering into Pakistan through economic, social, and educational means. Moreover, China is taking raw materials from Pakistan through agricultural land, as well as minerals through companies, similar to how the British did in the 18th century. As a result of lack of stability in political, economical, and social matters, Chinese can easily exert its pressure over Pakistan. It is therefore recommended that Pakistan should sign deals and pacts with China vigilantly, while defending its short term and long term strategic interest.
