Abstract

Buddhism is a philosophical and non-Semitic fourth big religion of the world that presents some of its spiritual and ethical teachings in eight definite principles simply known as the noble eight-fold path, the middle way or the path of righteousness of Buddha Dharma. This Gautama’s Eight Step Program is actually the Buddhist’s whole path that lays special emphasis on three fold training i.e. Panna (Insight or Wisdom), Sila (Morality) and Samadhi (Meditation). This way is considered for the cessation of the painful and end of sufferings. It leads to liberation, peace and enlightenment in Buddhism. Islam also teaches the best humanly attributes and values like to be truthful, peaceful towards humankind and pure in actions as well as one’s thoughts. Likewise, in the implementation of these Islamic and Buddhist teachings, there are less partial differences as compared to the similarities. This paper briefly discusses the principles of the Buddhist’s eightfold path with special reference to Islamic teachings in order to promote harmony and tolerance among the human beings related to various religions.
