Abstract

This study was intended to find out the role of school environment in creating the sense of political awareness among the students at secondary level in Punjab Pakistan. This research work was extracted from the doctoral dissertation submitted at International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). Four hundred and fourteen (414) male and female head teachers, Eight hundred and twenty eight (828) male and female Secondary School Teachers (SSTs) and one thousand two hundred and forty-two (1242) male and female students were selected by using stratified random sampling technique (SRST). Three self developed Questionnaires were administered to collect the data from the desired sample. The tools were developed after a thorough review of the related literature and in consultation with experts. Parametric and non parametric test of significance were applied to test the hypotheses of the study. The results of the study showed that all the secondary schools situated in the Punjab were not promoting the political understanding and democratic values. This study recommends that a serious attention should be given to develop the democratic school environment by establishing various organizations and societies. A special training for teachers and head teachers was also suggested to promote the democratic environment.
