Abstract

Masjid is one of the most important institutions in Islam. Whole Islamic system, political, social, religious and judicial revolves around of Masjid. It is not only a master piece of building or a religious institution in Islam but it is a reformative platform of Muslims. If we consult the history we observe that every Prophet build a new masjid or established the old Masjid. The strategy of the Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is the best example to reform the society. In that era Masjid was not only a building but an academic and socio-political institution. It was at a time a community center, religious place, political and administrative office, ambassador and international relation Centre, moral and welfare training center. Convincingly Masjid has comprehensive role to transform the society. Later on in caliphate era it has been carried on this dynamic character at state level but its role was more defined. In caliphate era Masjid played an excellent role to strengthen the state and society. Especially in the golden era of Hazrat Umar in Khattab (RA) Masjid was a political institution like parliament, Bati-ul-Maal like state bank, judiciary like Supreme Court, educational institute like University and chief executive office like presentment house. With the passage of time and split of caliphate the role of Masjid was start to decrease and at the end it was declined. According to many studies scholars has depicts, the solution of the current Muslim decline is due to lack of Masjid integrated role in the society. This study elaborates how a Masjid can play a dynamic role to transform the society as an institution in this age of sedition and decline.
