Abstract
In the current study, two different configuration for the cooling of cryogenic packed bed namely direct and indirect along with the selection of suitable coolant has been explored. Calculations were performed and the required amount of liquid nitrogen and liquefied natural gas was calculated for the cooling of cryogenic packed bed. The amount required and the prices of the two coolants are compared. The advantages and disadvantages of using each of the coolants are discussed. Technical and economic benefits of using liquefied natural gas for the cooling of cryogenic packed bed has been highlighted.
