Abstract

The Significance of Jami’ al-Tirmizi is well known and it is one of the finest amongst the six authentic books of hadith (Al-Kutub al-Sittah). The Importance of Jami’ al-Tirmizi can be determined by the number of research works done on Jami’ al-Tirmizi and Ṣaḥīḥ alBukhārī, as other four books did not received such huge number of scholarly works. Most Scholars do not challenge the authenticity of Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, however they argue that the other four books called al Sunnan al Arba’ah may contain some weak (Da’if), as well as a few number of fabricated (Mawḍūʻ) ahadith. Besides the fact that Jami’ al-Tirmizi may have some weak (Da’if) narrations, the question raise among the Scholars, is it also include any fabricated (Mawḍūʻ) narrations or not? There are two major views in this regard. A group of scholars arguing that there is no (Mawḍūʻ) ahadith in Jami’ al-Tirmizi, however another group of scholars are convinced that this book contain a number of it. Furthermore last group parted on deciding the exact figure of such ahadith. The article focuses on this issue by analyzing arguments of both groups, with five (5) ahdith as a case study followed by a conclusion.
