Rule of Law is one of the fundamental principles of good governance which is aimed for achieving excellence in Ruler-Public relations with the overall purpose of having a peaceful and prosperous state. This rule interalia include a just use of authority (within its limits), without any favour or fear or transgression. The rulers of Islamic Republic of Pakistan have an added responsibility of being answerable before God besides people. They therefore were supposed to be more conscious than others in this regard and were supposed to create an environment of equality, harmony and overall justice via introduction of an impartial system of accountability for all and by not transgressing the limits of their authority/position. It is very unfortunate to say that this has not happened so far. The present article discusses the subject in the light of Islamic teachings.
