Abstract
This study is an effort to review the linguistic studies made in connection with the Qur’anic commentaries in the first phase of Islam. They include the basis of Phonetical, Morphological, Syntactical and stylistic and other linguistic studies. The linguistic studies began in the west in the 20th century with the name of Linguistics. While a glimpse into the Qur’anic commentaries of the first phase testifies that they are teemed with fundamentals of linguistics from the very beginning. And this is very natural as all branches of linguistics were being stemmed out for the understanding of the Qur’an. The Qur’anic commentators laid down the foundations of linguistics and grammarians and lexicographers later on benefitted from them. This article presents morphological study of the word ın the Ayah 28 Surah Al-Anbiya in the light of various commentators of the past. A comparative study of different opinions in this regard has also been covered in the article.
