Abstract
The scholars of Prophetic Traditions (Muhaddithun) have divided hadith into many categories. According to authenticity of narrators it has three sub categories i.e. sahih (sound), hasan (good) and da’if (weak). The first two are unanimously acceptable by all scholars of hadith however they have differed about the last type. Some of them are of the view that a weak hadith is acceptable in certain conditions while others hold opposite opinion. Keeping in view its weaknesses and strength, a da’if hadith is further sub divided into many types. Acting upon the directives mentioned in a weak hadith has been a hot topic of debate among scholars down the ages. In this paper, the acceptability and non-acceptability of da’if ahadith is discussed in the light of the contemporary situation.
